This video story could just as well fit into the pregnancy OR parenting categories, so I'll include it in both! Joanna Linton is a Philly-based mama who recently started Rae's Roots, a pregnancy + postpartum (and beyond) wellness tea line for moms made with traditional Adaptogens and Ayurvedic herbs to help mom's mind and body navigate the inevitable stressors of motherhood. Although the most central purpose of this site is to connect pregnant people with doulas, Joanna raised such good point in an email to me when she first introduced herself -- "As much as the mental and emotional support of a doula (or lactation consultant) are crucial for expecting and new moms, sometimes it is meaningful to have something tangible to go along with it - and a healing ritual like our teas provide that physical touch as moms navigate this beautiful journey." So YES -- use babyjawn.com to help find a doula for your birth! But, while you are growing your baby and while you are navigating your early parenting days, take Joanna's sage advice to prioritize self care and well-being by creating rituals that are good for your body and mind. I think you will really enjoy hearing Joanna's story about what led her to create Rae's Roots and you may even want to hurry over to Minnow Lane or the Rae's Root website to grab some tea for yourself or someone you love.

Annabelle and her partner Chris were in my birth class allllllll the way back in November of 2016, which means that she has the special perspective of being pregnant, giving birth and becoming a pro at parenting right here in our beloved Philadelphia. This conversation left me once again convinced -- I have the best job in the world because it allows me to meet people like Annabelle. I was smiling from ear to ear after recording this video interview. She just has so much wisdom to offer to new expectant and new parents. Her brightness and smile will go far to reassure you that even through the difficult and demanding parts of parenting, you can do it! *Content Warning: Pregnancy Loss* Annabelle was incredibly generous to share about her experience with pregnancy loss in the midst of parenting. If this topic could be triggering for you and you wish to avoid it, you can still enjoy our interview and skip from the 17:30 mark to the 27:15 mark. Finally, at long last I have something here for those of you in the throes of parenting! I previously talked with Marcella DeRosa about her role as a birth doula in a video interview that you can find here. But today I talked with her again, this time about the mini-classes, webinar and consultant services she's providing as a holistic baby sleep birth coach. Sleep (well, lack thereof) is something that comes up as a concern with nearly every expectant parent who I meet. I'm so grateful for the work that Marcella is doing and that she is a resource for Philly families in search of solutions and support for adapting to their baby's totally biologically normal sleep needs. Enjoy this conversation with Marcella, and check our her webpage at bornwithlovesleep.com to discover more! What will you find here? Stories from Philly parents, keeping it real, telling you all about their favorite things about raising a family in Philadelphia. I'll also feature some of my favorite Philadelphia area professionals who I think may be just the resource you need for your parenting journey!
Check back soon! Better yet, nominate a friend or yourself to share a story in a video interview. Email babyjawndotcom@gmail.com to participate! |
