Making peace with your birth experience

In this moment of wild uncertainty, there is so much releasing we will need to do around our expectations, our plans, and our visions for birth and early parenthood. While there is a village of care providers around you ready to support you, there is plenty to mourn as well. It is important to process these disappointments and disruptions both for your sake and the sake of your baby. Be gentle with yourself. Let yourself cry and share your experiences with others. Make a list of family or friends or care providers that you can call--even in the middle of the night--when the isolation of new parenthood feels too hard to bear. Know that you are not alone. There are virtual new parents support groups, doulas who are redesigning their postpartum care offerings to include virtual postpartum doula support, breastfeeding support groups and reproductive therapists and psychotherapists ready to support you.
